The English-Chinese Bilingual Major provides a four-year teaching program for those students who want to study both Chinese and English in BLCU. This major sets the aim at cultivating those bilingual talents who, proficient in both English and Chinese and rather familiar with Chinese conditions, can meet the international demands.

The Chinese courses of this major are almost the same as those of the Chinese Language Major of the Chinese Department of BLCU. The English courses include English comprehensive class, listening, and oral English class. Oral English class is taught by the American or Canadian teachers.Listening class is held in the multimedia classroom, where the teacher and the students can interactively communicate.

There are two ways of studying: studying all the time in China; studying in China for three years and abroad for one year. The BLCU is cooperating with some well-known American or Canadian universities to offer the students a good environment to learn both English and Chinese. This is a characteristic way of teaching languages, for the students can learn the cultures and languages in two countries during the span of only four years. Today, there have been many bilingual graduates who have studied both in China and in Canada or the U. S. The practice shows that their bilingual background helps them to find a satisfied job.
