1、How many students are there in Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), and how many countries are they from?
BLCU is the only university in China with its main task set at teaching the Chinese language and culture to foreign students. Each year there are about 10,000 international students from more than 120 countries and 5,000 home students learning and studying here.
2、How to apply for the language programs in BLCU?
Applicants should fill in the Application Form for Foreign Students, which could be downloadable, on-line at: http:// www.blcu.edu.cn/lzb/lx/index/hem. The completed form should be submitted before the application deadline to the Admission Office together with the required documents. Applicants can also apply directly in the Admission office. Applications submitted by fax or by email are unacceptable.

4、How long does the Admission Procedure take?
It usually takes about 3 weeks.
5. How many students are there in a class?
There are about 20 students in each class.
6、How are classes arranged?
There will be a placement test at the beginning of each program, and classes will be arranged according to the results of the test.
7、How to apply for BA program?
a)The applicant for BA program should submit the HSK Level Three Certificate; BLCU does not accept applicants with no knowledge of Chinese language.
b)Applicants with some knowledge of Chinese, but no HSK Certificate need to take the HSK Test held by BLCU on the first day of the registration. Those who pass the HSK Level Three Test could be registered as BA students; otherwise, the applicants could be registered as language students studying at BLCU and be registered as BA students until they pass the HSK Level Three Test.
c)All the applicants for bilingual studies (Chinese-English/Chinese-Japanese) and Chinese Government Scholarship students do not need to have the qualification examination.
8、What documents are required for BA applicants?
1) Academic diploma: a photocopy of the applicant's latest academic diploma or a certificate of a university attendance.
2) Academic record: the original transcript of academic record (a photocopy of the transcript will not do).
3) Two references.
4) A photocopy of the applicant’s passport
5) A Photocopy of the ID of the applicant's contact person.
6) A photocopy of the HSK Level Three Certificate (only for Chinese Language major or Chinese Language and Culture major).
7) A photocopy of the HSK Level Six Certificate or above (only joint class with Chinese Students).
8) A photocopy of the application fee receipt submitted by T/T.
9. How to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship?
You may apply in your home country institutions, which are in charge of study-abroad or directly contact the Chinese embassy (consulate) in your country. The application period is from January to April.

10 What are the accommodation fees and facilities?
There are double rooms and single rooms with different conditions.
Facilities: TV, phone (Phone bill is not included), broadband (broadband bill is not included), air-conditioner, fridge, shower, toilet etc.
Double Room: 50-75 RMB/ per day per bed.
Single Room: 92-150 RMB/ per day per bed.

12. How to pay the fees?
Fees can be paid by:
1) Tuition fee:
- Cash: US dollars, Japanese Yen, GB pound, Hong Kong dollars and Euro must be converted into RMB according to the exchange rate of the day or RMB.
(2) Traveler’s cheque (Other cheques are not acceptable).
(3) Credit cards: International Visa, MasterCard. American Express, JCB Card and Diners. A 4% service fee will be charged when using these cards.
(4) Telegraphic transfer: Students can remit the tuition fees to the banking account by T/T in advance. Upon registration, please present the original copy of the payment receipt. If the payment fails to reach the Financial Department by the time you arrive at BLCU, you could not register.
2) Accommodation fees should be paid by RMB.
13. How are class hours arranged?
Regular short-term programs: from 8:00 am to 12:00 am Monday through Friday.
Intensive short-term programs: from 8:00 am to 12:00 am and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Long-term programs: from 8:30 am to 12:30 am and 14:00 pm to 18: pm Monday through Friday. The class hours vary depending on chosen courses.
14. The school calendar
There are two semesters in China. The first semester is from September to mid January next year and the second semester is from late February to mid July. There are about 40 weeks in the academic year. During the academic year, there are three days holiday on the National Day from 1st to 3rd October, three days holiday on May Day from 1st to 3rd May and one-day holiday on New Year's Day. The winter vacation is from January to February and the summer vacation is from July to August.
